Monster Fish Aquariums: Bringing the Ocean to Your Home

Considering adding a large fish tank to your home? Why not go with a monster-sized aquarium capable of housing larger fish? Monster fish aquariums are a dramatic choice that can bring the ocean (or a freshwater environment) into your home. As stunning as super aquariums are, your home will need sufficient space and structural support to accommodate your investment. Below are a few important considerations.

Monster Fish Aquariums – Site Selection

While it would be spectacular to place a super aquarium against a large picture window overlooking the ocean, direct sunlight is a concern. In general, large fish tanks should be placed on a level surface away from direct sunlight. Due to the aquarium’s weight, select a site on the ground level, ideally on a concrete slab. If the floor is raised, you may need a contractor to reinforce the floor where you plan on placing the tank.

Saltwater or Freshwater Monster Fish Tanks?

You’ve found the perfect spot for placing a luxurious monster fish tank in your home. Now comes the next choice: saltwater or fresh? If you want to bring the ocean into your home and enjoy the delights of watching tropical fish interact with other sea creatures, a saltwater fish tank is the obvious choice. On the other hand, if rainbow trout are more your style, choose a freshwater aquarium. Depending on where you live, it may make sense to let your location serve as a guide. For example, if your home is in Malibu, California, choosing a saltwater aquarium complete with kelp, driftwood, and saltwater fish would be a logical choice. If you live in Aspen, Colorado, a freshwater aquarium may make more sense.

Popular Monster Aquarium Types

Like their smaller counterparts, monster aquariums come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Double-sided aquariums built into walls or freestanding cabinetry units make stunning room dividers and allow for viewing on both sides. Cylindrical units are also popular, serving as a room’s focal point. Many luxury homeowners place aquariums in their bar areas, adding an elegant touch and a conversation starter. Another popular choice is to place a large aquarium in an entertainment center or custom cabinetry. Whether you choose a freestanding unit or have your monster aquarium built into your walls, super aquariums serve as living art pieces. Bring the ocean, or a mountain stream, into your home by investing in a super aquarium.
